For the past few months, the cooling fan is running all the time, not straight away when the engine starts. It doesn't run for about 1 minute then starts running as fast as it will go, outside temperature can be -5 right up to 20 degrees. I have changed 2 temperature sensors, 1 on the radiator, and 1 behind the thermostat.
The easiest method to check the alternator is by measuring the voltage at the battery terminals when the engine is running. Start your Astra. Connect the black cable of the multimeter to negative terminal of the battery, and the red cable to the positive terminal. The voltage should be between 13.5 and 14.8 volts with the engine running.

The first thing that you would want to do is locate the fuse for your Astra's radiator fan and make sure that it hasn't blown. If it is blown, replacing the fuse will only solve the problem for a very limited period of time. Unless the wiring issue is fixed, the fuse will blow again. The wiring harness itself can go bad.

I managed to get 200k out of the engine with help from people on here. Mine still drives but lack of power bit of smoke gonna look into head gasket.

If the oil level light came on and you have lots of oil then clearly this is just a sensor issue somewhere and i'd not worry about it too much.
